Waterfowl Relative Density Maps

The MDWFP in cooperation with Delta Wildlife conducted the first 2005-2006 aerial waterfowl survey November 14 – 18 in the Delta. Surveys are being conducted again this year in accordance with the methodology developed by Aaron Pearse and Rick Kaminski of Mississippi State University, and Ken Reinecke of USGS. Delta Wildlife, who was a partner in the first three years of this research project has committed to continued financial support of the project this year. During these surveys, a trained observer riding in a fixed-wing aircraft counts all waterfowl observed on specific transects in the Mississippi Delta. Numerous transects were flown throughout the Mississippi Delta, resulting in the maps you see above. The maps depict areas of low, medium, and high duck densities within the Delta. Plans are to conduct these surveys during the following periods:

2006-2007 Season
