Posted - 08/07/2005 : 09:25:12 I read in the updated rules that you could night fish on Lake Columbia and Lake Bill Waller. I was wondering if I read this right or not. I have tried to talk to the lake manager there but you can't ever catch him. The signs posted there still say no night fishing. I have fished lots of state lakes at night but these lakes have remained closed at night. Why haven't these lakes been open to fishing at night.

No. Night fishing is allowed at all State Park Lakes. Trolling speed only to limit noise and for safety reasons.

Can you have a generator running on the boat while trolling?
TTT
I suggest you check with the Park Manager before using the generator. If you are disturbing other park guests you will have to shut the generator down.

I talked to Parks Director Bill Pope about the situation at Trace. He said that since the water level is low, the park manager has the authority to limit or prevent night fishing for safety reasons until such time as full pool level is restored.

Posted - 03/20/2006 : 15:46:16 Here we go again. Dennis, we are not allowed to night fish at Trace State Park. Touch base with Bill and verify with me that I can night fish there this summer :)

Posted - 03/07/2006 : 08:39:52 Well, the manager at Natchez State Park is incorrect. I checked with the Parks Director, Bill Pope and he confirmed that night fishing is allowed at all State Parks.

Posted - 03/06/2006 : 21:40:43 There is a conflict of information concerning night fishing at state park lakes. I was at Natchez State Park Saturday, 3/4/06 and the sign next to the ramp had the time posted to be off the lake. When I ask an employee at the park when the lake would be open to fish at night I was told that this change applied only to "State Lakes" and each park could set fishing times independently of state lake regulations. It would probably be prudent to check with the park lake management before planning a night fishing trip. |

Posted - 11/23/2005 : 09:35:52 At certain times of the year, especially in the late summer when it is so hot, some people perfer to fish at night because it is cooler. Ultimately, compliance with the slot and lenght limit regulations depends upon the honesty of the angler not when the fish are caught. Perhaps compliance is less at night due to the perception that there is chance of being checked at night.

Posted - 10/07/2005 : 13:12:54 Does the night fishing apply to State lakes only? Or does it also include State Park lakes, e.g., Trace State Park or Paul B. Johnson? |

Posted - 10/07/2005 : 10:36:48 Recently (Sept. 2005) the regulation was changed to permit night fishing at all State Fishing Lakes. It is no longer at the discretion of the MDWFP employee assigned to maintain and operate the lake. The signs which prohibit night fishing at Lake Columbia and Lake Bill Waller will be removed. Boaters should exercise caution when night fishing on lakes (like Bill Waller) that have plenty standing timber present. Boaters should comply with all US Coast Guard approved and required equipment for boating and mooring at night. |
