Poll Question:
How do you feel about the fees charged at State Fishing Lakes? It cost the MDWFP over 1 million dollars a year to operate them and they generate about 300,000/yr in revenue from fees charged.

I love our state lakes and I do fish them quite often. However I just think that 10 dollars is way to much. I know that the lakes are a great thing that we probably take for granted but I still believe that there is another way to raise money than this.

I believe the annual and day use boat launch fees are too high. I lived in a few other states with much higher costs of living, and higher incomes per households, and their rates were about half as much. I can go to any of the Corps of Engineers waters, launch my boat and fish for three dollars a day. To make these lakes more enticing you may have to become more competitive. I don't believe there is any hunting allowed on any of these lakes. I may be wrong though. If this is true than the lakes are not being used for about 5 months out of the year. Other states open them to waterfowl hunting, when possible, and charge a fee for this. I know I would like more places to hunt waterfowl closer to where I live. I currently drive 1.5 to 2 hours 2-3 times a week to waterfowl hunt. I realize some of the lakes may not be huntable b/c they are in city limits, of refuges, etc. |

| It doesn't matter what they charge because I'm willing to pay whatever is needed just to be able to fish and have a good time. |

I would fish at Oktibbeha county lake more but its 11 bucks to launch a boat. Most us college kids really don't want to spend $11 to fish one evening. Maybe it should be some kinda of size limit thing like <16' for 5 dollars, and $11 dollars for >16'. It's probably not the right way to think about the situation, but if someone is launching a long bass boat, they are probably more willing to fork out eleven bucks.
