Poll Question:
Anglers and Hunters can take pride that through their efforts decades ago, they successfully lobbied the US Congress to enact legislation which placed an excise tax on hunting and fishing gear. These federal dollars are a critical funding source which is distributed to each state fish and wildlife agency by the US Fish and Wildlife Service. In 1976, Missouri became the first state in the nation to approve a 1/8 percent conservation sales tax. For every 1,000 spent on taxable items, $1.25 is earmarked for the conservation of Missouri's fish, wildlife and forests. After may years and several attempts, Arkansas voters passed a 1/8 percent conservation sales tax in 1996.

Historically, state fish and wildlife agencies rely on statewide license sales and the previously listed federal funds for their revenue. Very little general appropriation on state income tax and state sales tax revenue is provided by the states for these agencies.

I want your comments on whether or not you would support the following new funding ideas for the Mississippi Department of Wildlife, Fisheries and Parks ---PLEASE ONLY VOTE FOR ONE OPTION:

An increase of sales tax by 1/8 of 1% as follows:

Choices:

I SUPPORT increasing the state sales tax ON ALL GOODS AND SERVICES CURRENTLY TAXED
I OPPOSE increasing the state sales tax ON ALL GOODS AND SERVICES CURRENTLY TAXED
I SUPPORT increasing the state sales tax ON HUNTING AND FISHING EQUIPMENT SOLD WITHIN THE STATE
I OPPOSE increasing the state sales tax ON HUNTING AND FISHING EQUIPMENT SOLD WITHIN THE STATE
No Opinion

JUST TO POINT OUT THE OBVIOUS. I SEE SOME VOTES FOR SUPPORT ONLY ON THE HUNTING AND FISHING EQUIPMENT. JUST TO PUT THIS IN PROSPECTIVE. IF YOU WERE RICH, AND SPENT $100,00.00 THAT WAS TAXABLE, THE MDWFP WOULD ONLY GET $125.00. THAT SMALL OF AN INCREASE WOULDN'T EVEN BE NOTICEABLE. I THINK IT SHOULD BE AN INCREASE ACCROSS THE BOARD.

Admin, I would support rasing the cigarette tax a $1.00 a pack if all the $1.00 was earmarked for the MDWFP to use where needed. As long as Barbour is Governor I don't think you will get any help with a tax increase for the things listed above. However as moot a point as it may be to me I will cast a vote for taxing all goods and services currently taxed.

I know people don't want to here this but I'm for a license price increase by at least $5. I work with people from Louisiana and Texas and their resident license are twice to three times high as ours.

I have no problem with say a sportsman license fee going to$75.00 and let this include the state stamp and saltwater fee. A$100.00 one that covers all of the above plus the state W.M.A.s

It's not about the number of ducks you kill,It's about the life time of memories you make with friends and family

I oppose increasing any existing or creating any new taxes. Enough is enough!!! Let's try to reallocate some underperforming underappreciated programs funding towards more useful and appreciated projects.

If it's necessary, I wouldn't mind paying more sales tax on hunting and fishing gear since the tax supports being able to use public recreaction. But not a sales tax on everything - not in a state with an income tax.

I oppose TAXES in any form or fashion.

More money and care for our outdoors would be had if they used a "Donation" program.

This is proveable from experience of numerous other organizations.

I do not support any new tax increases. I highly support purchasing new products and equipment for hunting/fishing. I oppose using any monies taken from any non fish/game citizens that could possibly use their weight at regulating our sports. Any new tax increase has the possibility of being earmarked and not even go to the cause it was voted for. Case in point, Mississippi Casinos were supposed to have helped education in our state, but teachers and faculty still need public contributions because our " taxes and so called Casinos have not been used properly." No new taxes, we need voters to put new politicians in office that lobby only for Mississippians point blank!

i will always support any idea that will help fund future programs that will help in saving and developing our state natural resources and the people who protect them. The game and fish dept is way behind on salary increses for the wardens who are out there keeping these resources for our children. The lack of funding for these salaries is and should be reflected in the motivation of the peolpe preforming these duties. If we are going to have good , motivated and knowledgable people working for our future , they need to at least be afforded the ability to pay there bills and ensure that there children are provided for.i currently serve full time with the MSARNG and we have the GI Bill that we can now pass own to our spouse and other programs that subsidise our income, where are the ones for our wardens. You only get out of something what you put in, and i hope that with all the crazy national spending going on we have the foresight to put our state funds to good use and good management.
