I am needing a new grinder and was wondering about the Cabela's #22. I have used Lem products in the past with good success but noticed that Cabela's grinder was cheaper. I was hoping someone on here might have some info.

That is good to hear. The #22 refers to diameter of the riser tube and auger tube. Realistically what do you think you lbs per hr is?

I have been using a #12 grinder that I got from a friend. He has been grinding 5 to 8 deer a year for the last 8 years. We ground 100# of sausage in less than 45 min. It came from Northern Tool. They are on sale now for $99.99. It's a great grinder and not expensive. I hope he never asks for it back!

Where can I find one of those grinders? Is it a mail order item?

I have a smaller grinder that works great for doing small jobs. Usually when I set up to grind it is for multiple deer. The longest part of the proces is cutting meat small enough for the grinder.

Oxfeedman they are sold through Northern Tool Company (northerntool.com) and yes they are a mail order item. I have used Northern many times they are a good company. They also have an excellent 5# sausage stuffer. The grinder is item #168620.

Thanks MrGoodtime. I was unsure of their product quality. Do you know the actual manufactures name?

I have the cabelas with the #22 head. I love it, you can buy replacement parts, blades and plates at Rebel for it too that is cheeper than Bass Pro Shop. A friend and myself went in together and bought it and we have ground 25+ deer each of the 3 years we have had it and it hasn't missed a beat. The #22 head is large enough that you don't have to cut the meat up as small as you would have to with smaller grinders. I have put 3" chunks in and it didn't even grunt. The only drawback is for me the pan is to small.

Well I ordered the #22 along with the tenderizer attachment. I have most of a buck left in the ice box from last year so we will see how it goes. If I could ever get a weekend off I might (MIGHT) get another.

Coon69 have you had any problem with the auger near the bushing getting hot. I mean smoking hot? Could have just been the frozen meat but it was hot to the touch. Otherwise this grinder is the man. From frozen meat to gobs of pork fat nothing fazed it or clogged it up and I tried.

No I have never had that problem. You don't want to tighten the nut up on a dry blade, plate, and auger. Tighten the nut until it touches the plate add some meat and turn it on as soon as you feel everything tighten up....Snug up the nut, this will prolong blade and plate life. and always use some kind of lube, mineral oil or food grade silicone spray. I have never used frozen meat or fat either. I always give mine ample time to thaw. If you have any other questions feel free to e-mail me.

we use meat that still has ice in it not completely thawed and have never had heat issues, it will warm up some, but it dosent cause any issues, we also use the food grade silacone spray, be sure to give the auger and other parts a good coat of spray after you clean it all up, that way u want have rust next time u go to use it.BTW, we run ours through the dishwasher , just clean all the bigger stuff out first.

Thanks Coon69 that was the problem. I always use spray it I do remember the retaining nut being extremely tight when I broke it down. I will try your method next time. Can't wait to kill one and try the tenderizer attachment. Tired of splattering blood all over the place with the hammer method.
