State Parks Careers

Careers in this field are dedicated to providing safe, family-oriented outdoor recreational and educational experiences to Mississippi's residents and visitors to our beautiful state parks. In this field, a person may find career opportunities in park management, construction, skilled crafts, maintenance, park security, food service, historical interpretation and housekeeping.   • Facilities Maint Manager
    Deadline to apply for this postion - Monday July 28, 2014

    This is supervisory work in the direction of skilled workers involved in repair, maintenance, and installation of machines, tools, and equipment, and in maintenance of buildings, grounds, and utility systems within a state governmental complex. Duties include inspection of installations and repairs performed by subordinate facility maintenance personnel, projections of estimated expenditures necessary for project completion, and preparation of monthly reports delineating recommended improvements in operational efficiency of staff. Supervision is received from a Facilities Maintenance Superintendent or administrative superior and is exercised over lower-level subordinate personnel.

    Experience/Educational Requirements:

    Graduation from a standard four-year high school or equivalent (GED).


    Five (5) years of experience related to the above described duties, one (1) of which must have been as a Facilities Maintenance Supervisor or the equivalent in at least one of the following fields: plumbing, carpentry, electrical works, electronics, plastering, painting, air conditioning/refrigeration, heating equipment, or general maintenance and repair.

    Note:  The position requires  experience in refrigeration, HVAC repair and installation and knowledge of general facility maintenance.

  • Park Assistant Manager III - (Pike County)
    Deadline to apply for this postion - Tuesday August 05, 2014

    This is administrative and supervisory work in assisting the Park Manager of a state park in the overall operation of the facility. Work includes organizing and supervising park work crews. Supervision is exercised over subordinate employees and the incumbent works under the direct supervision of the Park Manager.


    A Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university in management, recreation and parks administration, or a related field;


    Six (6) months of experience in work related to the duties.


    Graduation from a standard four year high school or equivalent (GED),


    Four (4) years and six (6) months of experience in work related to the duties.

    Substitution Statement

    Graduation from a standard four year high school or equivalent (GED), related education and related experience may be substituted on an equal basis.
