Katfishin’ Kids Youth Fishing Rodeo
JACKSON - In celebration of National Fishing and Boating Week, youth 15 years and younger are invited to a youth fishing rodeo at the Turcotte Education Center beginning at 6:30 a.m. Saturday, June 6. The free event is hosted by The Mississippi Wildlife Federation, the Mississippi Department of Wildlife, Fisheries, and Parks (MDWFP), The Mississippi Museum of Natural Science, Sport Fish Restoration, Coca-Cola Bottling, Blue Bunny Ice Cream, Frito Lay, Academy Sports and Outdoors, Brown Bottling Group, ESI Supply, LLC, BankPlus, Keep the Rez Beautiful, Allied Waste Services, Keesler Federal Credit Union and all local Wal-Mart stores.
The Turcotte Education Center is located at 506 Hwy 43 South approximately 7 miles south of Canton. Fishing gear and bait will be provided.
The event is a good opportunity for young anglers to fish a lake that is well stocked with catfish which are typically easy to catch. Additionally, youth can learn the basics of fish and fishing: how to tie a knot, select the correct lure, bait hooks, cast, what a fish is, and where it lives. Families are invited to come enjoy quality time together in a safe environment.
