John Collum Awarded 2012 SEAFWA Officer of the Year

JACKSON - Master Sergeant John Collum, of Fulton, MS, a thirteen-year veteran of the Mississippi Department of Wildlife, Fisheries, and Parks, was recently awarded the 2012 SEAFWA Officer of the Year by the Southeast Association of Fish and Wildlife Agencies. Seventeen other top officers from across the southeast region of the United States were nominated for the prestigious award, bestowed annually since 1986.

"Officer Collum's exceptional dedication to protecting the natural resources and people of Mississippi, as evidenced by his community outreach, leadership skills, and innovation, are typical of his service, and are the reason he was awarded this honor," stated Dr. Sam Polles, Executive Director of MDWFP.

Officer Collum began working as a volunteer hunter and boating safety instructor for Itawamba County before becoming a conservation officer and has since distinguished himself as one of the state's most respected law enforcement professionals.
