MDWFP to Participate in Operation Dry Water

The Mississippi Department of Wildlife, Fisheries, and Parks (MDWFP) will participate in Operation Dry Water June 28-30 as part of a nationally coordinated effort to reduce the number of accidents and fatalities related to boating under the influence (BUI).

Operation Dry Water aims to bring awareness and education to recreational boaters about the dangers of alcohol and drug use on the water.  The initiative also serves as an increased BUI detection and enforcement effort.

During Operation Dry Water, Conservation Officers will be patrolling waters to detect individuals who are operating a vessel with a blood alcohol content that exceeds the state limit of .08.

"We are dedicated to keeping boaters safe on the water," says Maj. Jerry Carter, MDWFP Boater Safety Administrator.  "Boating is a safe and enjoyable pastime when people stay alert and follow boating regulations."

Operation Dry Water 2013 is a joint program of the MDWFP, National Association of State Boating Law Administrators, U.S. Coast Guard, U.S. Corp of Engineers, MS Department of Marine Resources, and the Pearl River Valley Water Supply District.
