Application Deadline Extended for Family Fish Camp at Tombigbee State Park
JACKSON - The Mississippi Department of Wildlife, Fisheries, and Parks (MDWFP) and the Mississippi Wildlife Federation (MWF) will host a Family Fish Camp at Tombigbee State Park near Tupelo on August 1 and 2. Times for the camp are 5:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Friday and 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday. The camp is open to youth ages 10-15; its purpose is to introduce Mississippi's families to fisheries conservation, management, and sport fishing. To make this a family outing, at least one parent (or legal guardian 21 years of age or older) is required to attend the camp with a youth participant.
"The camp is much more than children going fishing," said MDWFP Fisheries Bureau Assistant Director, Larry Bull. "Classroom discussions and hands-on exercises led by MDWFP fisheries biologists and MWF volunteers will help students gain a better understanding of fish, fishing, and fisheries management."
Camp applications can be obtained at www.mdwfp.com/fishing-boating/education-outreach or by calling (601) 432-2200. Deadline for applications is July 28, 2014. Participants who are selected for the camp will be notified by July 30. For more information about MDWFP Family Fish Camp, contact Larry Bull at (601) 432-2200 or LarryB@mdwfp.state.ms.us.
