Turkey Hunting Applications Available for Canemount WMA
JACKSON - Canemount Wildlife Management Area (WMA) is located near Port Gibson in Claiborne County. Canemount WMA includes approximately 3,500 acres of hardwood forests and turkeys are abundant. Turkey hunters looking for a truly special hunting opportunity with a good chance of seeing and harvesting game should look no further than Canemount WMA.
During the 2014 hunting season, turkey hunting opportunities will be available through a draw hunt system open only to Mississippi residents 16 years of age or older. There will be 14, 3-day hunts available from March 14 - April 30. Only one hunter will be selected for each 3-day hunt. Each drawn hunter may bring one hunting guest (two persons per hunting party). During each 3-day hunt, the bag limit will be one adult gobbler.
Hunters may apply for hunts at www.mdwfp.com/draws from January 17 - February 14. Applicants must have a valid Mississippi hunting license to apply for hunts. All hunters who are randomly selected to hunt are required to pay a $300 permit fee, and full payment must be made by February 26. Hunters that do not complete full payment by February 26 will forfeit their permit and a second drawing will be held. Hunting permits are non-refundable and non-transferable.
