MDWFP & MSU to Host Pond Management Workshop in Forrest County
JACKSON - Mississippi Department of Wildlife, Fisheries, and
Parks (MDWFP) Fisheries Bureau and the Mississippi State University
Extension Service are hosting a pond management workshop in Forrest
County. "We receive numerous requests for help managing ponds
to achieve pond owner goals - whether it is catching bigger bass,
creating a quality bream fishery or simply stocking catfish,"
according to MDWFP fisheries biologist Stephen Brown. "Anyone
interested in learning more about pond management or those
considering building a pond are encouraged to attend."
The workshop will be held at Paul B. Johnson State Park in
Hattiesburg on Tuesday, June 26, 2012 at 6:00 p.m. An hour-long
presentation will be given that includes topics on pond design,
fish stocking, harvest, vegetation control, liming, and
fertilizing. A question-and-answer period will follow to address
additional topics. Those interested in attending the workshop are
asked to register by calling the Forrest County Extension Office at
601-545-6083.
