MDWFP Offers New Apprentice License

JACKSON – The Mississippi Department of Wildlife, Fisheries, and Parks is now offering an Apprentice 3-Day Sportsman License for Mississippi residents. The license fee is $7.00 and includes All Game Hunting and Fishing, Fall and Spring Turkey Hunting, and Archery/Primitive Weapon privileges.

The MDWFP is about hunting, fishing, conservation, and education. We are also about protecting the traditions, rites of passage, weekend getaways, and campfire moments that make living in and visiting Mississippi such a rich experience.

The weekend-long celebration will include a festival at the Mississippi Museum of Natural Science (MMNS) on Saturday, November 3, and free admission to MDWFP State Lakes, State Parks, and Wildlife Management Areas November 3-4.

Mississippi Marksmanship Program Goes Mobile

Jackson - The Mississippi Marksmanship Program is continuing its efforts to bring top notch shotgun and rifle shooting education to our state’s resident hunters. Many of our citizens did not have an opportunity to hunt when growing up due to their home in a city or because their parents worked long hours and did not have the opportunity to go hunting with them. The very same shooting lessons that were taught to youth years ago are now being offered to those who did not have the opportunity to experience Mississippi’s outdoors when young.

Dr. Francisco Vilella will present a lecture entitled "Resident and Neotropical Migrant Bird Communities of the Savanna Wetlands of the Orinoco River Basin, South America: Ecology and Conservation".

Jackson Optimist Club Donates $1,000 to Fishing Rodeo Program

The Jackson Optimist Club held true to its motto “Friend of Youth” by donating $1,000 to the Foundation for Mississippi Wildlife, Fisheries, and Parks. The donation will be used by the Mississippi Department of Wildlife, Fisheries, and Parks (MDWFP) Fishing Rodeo Program which introduces approximately 7,000 youth to fishing each year.

2013 Youth Art Contest

JACKSON - Students across Mississippi are invited to get outdoors and participate in the 2013 North Mississippi Fish Hatchery Youth Art Contest. Each student must submit a portfolio that includes artwork and an entry form to the Visitor Education Center (VEC). The deadline for entries is May 15, 2013.
