Dragonflies And Damselflies: Mississippi’s Bizarre And Beautiful Odonates
SPEAKER: Dr. Doug Clarke, Retired, Fisheries Biologist, Environmental Lab, Wetlands and Coastal Ecology Branch, Army Corps of Engineers, Vicksburg, MS
Dr. Clarke will discuss cultural perceptions of dragonflies, review basic odonate anatomy emphasizing features that separate damselflies from dragonflies and help to identify species, describe odonate life histories, and illustrate the diversity and major taxonomic groups of both damselflies and dragonflies using his own photos. All examples will represent species found in Mississippi. If time allows, Dr. Clarke will offer suggestions on how to photograph odonates.
