The geology of Mississippi was created over millions of years, but the research and writing of the book only took a decade!

Mississippi has been smashed together, torn apart, inundated by oceans, and weathered and eroded, yet clues in the rock record enable its history to be interpreted.

In their book, Roadside Geology of Mississippi, geoscientists Stan Galicki and Darrel Schmitz unearth the state’s deeply buried stories in 63 road logs that traverse the entire state, from the Gulf Coast to the state’s highest point (807 feet!) in the northeast corner.

They'll discuss challenges related to logistics, technology, and the state’s surface geology they encountered while writing the Roadside Geology of Mississippi. Books will be available for purchase and authors will sign copies.
