he Museum's outdoor exhibits are designed to give visitors opportunities for nature walks, photography and the study of the living things in their environment. Over two miles in length, the trail system is a refuge in the heart of Jackson and meanders through wooded bluffs, river bottoms, lakes, and scenic swamplands. The wooden pergola in front of the Museum's entrance includes displays of indigenous plants. Also located in front of the Museum is The Liberty Garden honoring the memory of those who perished on September 11, 2001 and The Millennium Grove which insures the perpetuation of America's Famous and Historic Trees. Areas behind the building showcase a pitcher plant bog, a longleaf pine forest, and a water feature and bird feeding area.

Located throughout the Museum grounds are seven demonstration sites for erosion, sediment and stormwater management which address urban stormwater quality concerns on both short and long term basis while maintaining and enhancing one of the finest remaining natural areas in central Mississippi.
