NMFH Annual Youth Fishing
Rodeos
Spring 2012
The North Mississippi Fish Hatchery Visitor Education Center (NMFH VEC) holds an annual youth fishing rodeo each spring. The Mississippi Department of Wildlife, Fisheries, & Parks is dedicated to promoting the outdoors and encouraging responsible anglers! This year at the NMFH VEC we had close to 300 young people not only fishing but catching catfish and one or two crappie!

This year the Department tagged 25 fish, which won many anglers great prizes.

Some young fishermen (right) were so determined to get to the rodeo, they stopped on the side of the road, gathered some cane, and made it in time to land a catfish supper. The biggest fish caught was 5 lbs. 11 oz. This angler, Brett (left), decided the best place for the winning catfish was back in the rodeo pond. However, this catch still won the Bill Dance autographed hat!

A special thanks to BAM (Bowfishing Association of Mississippi) for participating in our event this year. Maybe some of these boys and girls will land some impressive trophy records in the future!
