Located in the heart of Mississippi's pine belt region, Paul B. Johnson State Park is the gateway to a natural wonderland marked by majestic long-leaf and loblolly pines, delicate dogwoods, and ancient oaks. The deep forests surrounding Paul B. Johnson provides a picturesque setting for a variety of outdoor activities. The University of Southern Mississippi (USM) is just a 20-minute drive to the north, making Paul B. Johnson State Park the perfect place to spend a football weekend

Day Use
A day-use entry fee is charged on a per vehicle basis.

  • Entrance $4 and $.50 per person over 6 people.

Things to Do
A variety of recreational activities and facilities are available at Paul B. Johnson State Park. Facilities for use include: visitor center and gameroom, picnic tables and grills, picnic pavilions, playgrounds, splash pad, disc golf, swimming, and nature trails. Fishing, boating and water skiing are available on Geiger Lake, a 225 acre fresh water lake.

Stay the Night
There are several options when it comes to staying overnight. The park offers 125 RV campsites, 25 primitive tent campsites, 16 cabins, 3 cottages, and a group camp facility. These facilities are located in wooded areas with views of Geiger Lake.

Reservations are encouraged. Reservations can be made by calling the park at 601-582-7721 or by online reservations. Our online reservation system is hosted by Reserve America.

Park Events

  • Easter Festival - Easter egg hunt held on the Saturday before Easter.
  • July 4th Fireworks Display - Professional fireworks display over Geiger Lake on the evening of July 4th.
  • Fall Festival features a fishing rodeo, costum contest, and hay ride.

Nearby Events

  • HUBFEST is an arts & crafts event held in downtown Hattiesburg, MS. The event is a one day event, typically held on the last Saturday in March. The event features four stages of music, two food courts, and over 250 arts and crafts booths. For more information visit - HUBFEST
  • Victorian Candlelit Christmas is a two day event in December. The event features the lighting of 15,000 candle luminaries as dusk falls in the Hattiesburg Historic Neighborhood District. Over 400 homes and businesses decorate their porches and store fronts. A Tour of Homes is featured each year during the event. Horse drawn carriage rides and shuttle services are available.
