"Shorebirds, the Limits of Endurance,
and the Value of Conservation"
SPEAKER: J.R. Rigby, Co-founder and Secretary, Delta Wind Birds and Research Hydrologist, USDA-ARS, Oxford, Mississippi
The annual migrations of sandpipers and plovers, collectively known as shorebirds, are some of the most epic in nature, stretching even what scientists imagined was possible.
J.R. will introduce this fascinating group of birds and discuss their remarkable adaptations to long-distance flight as well as the causes of decline in North American shorebird populations. Hundreds of thousands of these birds pass through, or over, Mississippi each year but are not well known - even among many bird watchers.
Come find out more about these amazing birds, where you can find them in Mississippi, and how Delta Wind Birds and other organizations are working to conserve shorebird habitat in Mississippi.
