Weekly Duck Migration Forecast
January 23, 2012 Overview
This will be the final Weekly Duck Migration Forecast for the 2011-2012 Waterfowl Season. Conditions throughout the coming week will be mild and snow melt will be substantial in areas to the east and south of Iowa. WSI values will decrease substantially, even in the Great Lakes region which last week was entirely snow covered and thus, the WSI predicts little to no movement of new dabbling ducks into southern latitudes in the coming week. Recent precipitation have increased habitat throughout the Mississippi Alluvial Valley and other southern locales. Ducks are likely redistributing to take advantage of newly created habitat caused by rainfall. Hunters that target these newly flooded habitats to take advantage of ducks already at their latitude may increase their hunting success.
