WMA Volunteer Program

The Wildlife Management Area (WMA) Program is responsible for managing over 600,000 acres of Mississippi land for the purposes of conserving and enhancing our wildlife resources and providing opportunities for quality outdoor recreation. The challenges to accomplishing this mission, however, are great considering that budgets and personnel resources are never at ideal levels.  That's why volunteers are so important to the success of WMAs. WMA
volunteers provide much needed assistance to help protect and improve our WMA system.

Our volunteers are varied and consist of people who have a desire to give back to their communities, who want to be good stewards of our public lands, who possess a onservation ethic and want to practice it, or who want to learn more about our outdoor resources.  A common thread among all of our volunteers is their passion for the outdoors and their desire to conserve our natural resources for the enjoyment and benefit of future generations.  Volunteers may be individuals, garden clubs, youth clubs, church groups, students, scout groups, sporting groups, and other conservation groups, to name a few.

There are many different types of work that are available for you to do as a volunteer (with the exceptions of law enforcement and operating heavy equipment).  Generally, no special skills are required to be a volunteer.  On-the-job training is provided as needed.  We try to match individual talents and skills with interests and work preferences to meet our mission and provide volunteers with a safe and rewarding project for their experience.  As a volunteer, you may work part-time or full-time, on a one-time project or special event, a few hours a week or month, or during a particular season.  To learn more about volunteering opportunities on a WMA of your interest, you may contact us 601-432-2199.

Some of the following opportunities may be available on a WMA near you:
