2016 Senate and House Bills

HB 487. Effective July 1, 2016. Signed May 3, 2016.
This bill amends Miss. Code Ann. §49-7-140 by removing the repealer. It also makes violations of any Commission regulation related to transportation of feral swine a Class I violation, punishable as provided in Miss. Code Ann. §49-7-141. 

HB 1151. Effective July 1, 2016. Signed April 14, 2016.

  • This bill amends Miss. Code Ann. §§49-7-5 and 49-7-9 to increase fees for resident hunting and fishing licenses as follows (all contingent upon the Commission increasing nonresident fees and that the proceeds be used to recruit and train conservation officers and fill vacancies):
  • The combination small game hunting and fishing license is increased to $10.
  • The combination (all game) hunting and fishing license is increased to $25.
  • The Sportsman's License is increased to $45.

HB 1157. Effective July 1, 2016. Signed April 6, 2016.
This bill amends §49-1-35 to authorize the Commission to set the subscription rate for Mississippi Outdoors magazine and to publish digital or electronic versions of its publications. 

SB 2150. Effective March 28, 2016. Signed March 28, 2016.
This bill designates the Wildlife Heritage Museum in Leland, as the official wildlife heritage museum for the State of Mississippi.

SB 2313. Effective April 5, 2016. Signed April 5, 2016.
This bill revises/amends Miss. Code Ann. §97-37-1 to remove the requirement that any lawfully-owned firearm suppressor (silencer) must be registered with the local Sheriff.  

SB 2515. Effective July 1, 2016. Signed April 18, 2016.
This bill exempts the records of hunting and fishing license purchasers/holders from production under the Mississippi Public Records Act of 1983.
