JACKSON- The Mississippi Department of Wildlife, Fisheries, and Parks (MDWFP) Fisheries Bureau and the Mississippi State University Extension Service are hosting a pond management workshop in Lowndes County. The workshop will be held at the Lowndes County Extension Office located at 485 Tom Rose Road in Columbus on Thursday, July 11 at 6 p.m.  An hour-long presentation will include topics on pond design, fish stocking, harvest, vegetation control, liming, and fertilization.  Pond owners will also be able to talk with biologists regarding questions they have about their ponds. Those interested in attending the workshop should register by calling the Lowndes County Extension Office at (662) 328-2111.

“This workshop will allow pond owners to interact with fisheries biologists and learn more about managing their fisheries to achieve their specific goals,” said MDWFP fisheries biologist Trevor Knight.  "It is also a great opportunity for people interested in building a pond to learn everything needed to properly construct a pond to avoid future problems."
