JACKSON - The Mississippi Department of Wildlife, Fisheries, and Parks (MDWFP) Fisheries Bureau will be one of several agencies conducting a pond management workshop hosted by the Desoto County Soil and Water Conservation District. The workshop will be held at the Bridgetown Community Center at 2645 Itasca Drive in Nesbit on Wednesday, May 29, from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m.

The presentation will include topics on pond design and construction, aquatic vegetation control, nuisance wildlife, and fish management. Fish sampling will be demonstrated by MDWFP Fisheries Biologists. The workshop is free, but registration is required for refreshments and lunch. Those requiring special accommodations are asked to call early. Anyone interested in attending the workshop is asked to register by contacting Meleiah Tyus with the Desoto County Soil and Water Conservation District at (662) 912-4152 or desotocountyswcd@gmail.com.

“This workshop will allow pond specialists, biologists, and private pond owners the opportunity to discuss ways to improve their property, pond habitat, and fishing,” MDWFP Fisheries Biologist Keith Meals said. “This is a great way for us to provide how-to information that can help pond owners achieve their goals.
