SPEAKER: Frank R. Hensley, Ph.D., Professor of Biological Sciences, Mississippi College

Over the last several years, motion-sensitive cameras have become ubiquitous tools in wildlife biology, ecology, and conservation of vertebrates. But only large endothermic animals can reliably trigger the motion sensors that result in useful photos and data.

Time lapse photography, in contrast, can capture images of smaller, slower, ectothermic species. But time lapse photography can quickly produce thousands of photos that don't capture any animals at all, creating a very low signal:noise ratio for useful data.

Dr. Hensley will discuss some of the challenges and successes that he and his students have experienced in theirĀ attempts to study reptiles using time lapse photography.
