Bass | Fishing reports haven't changed much, if at all, in recent weeks. The local die-hard anglers have been about the only ones fishing lately. The bite has been fairly good, with fish from 4-7 lbs. being caught on drop-shot rigs. Brush piles and other off-shore cover should hold a few fish, while the shallows early and late in the day could be productive, particularly with topwater lures. Suspending jerkbaits, shakeyhead finesse worms, rattletraps, or watermelon-colored soft plastics fished slowly are also good bait choices. |
Crappie | No crappie anglers have been to the lake recently. Look for fish in deeper water and target with crankbaits, jigs, or minnows. Good electronics are going to be a huge help locating fish right now. |
Bream | Worms and crickets around cover and along primary drop-offs are still producing some good fish. Fish have also been caught in deeper water; drop-shot rigs work well for both bank and boat anglers. |
Catfish | The catfish bite is slow, but a few anglers have been successful in the later afternoon with hotdogs and nightcrawlers. Try tight lining worms around the piers. Stink bait, cut bait, and kool-aid marinated chicken are all good options. Deeper shoreline cover could hold a fish or two as well. |
Reminder: All Walleye caught must be released immediately.

In January of 2022, MDWFP personnel sank donated Christmas trees in Lake Monroe. The brush piles are a good way to upcycle leftover Christmas trees and create fishing hot spots.
