About The Art of Conservation's National Competition:
The Fish Art and Essay Competition is free to enter and open to all students in grades K–12!
Each entry must include both an original artwork and a creative writing piece (writing is optional for students in grades K–3).

First place winners in the 2026 Mississippi competition will advance to nationals and win a free field trip for their class to the Bob Tyler Fish Hatchery and Visitor Education Center! First, second, and third place winners will receive medals for their achievements.

2025 Art of Conservation Recognition:
The Mississippi Department of Wildlife, Fisheries, and Parks was recognized in 2025 by the Art of Conservation for the Visitor Education Center's "dedication to the Art of Conservation Fish Art Contest, supporting and helping inspire young artists and fostering the next generation of stewards for our aquatic resources."
