JACKSON, MS – The Mississippi Department of Wildlife, Fisheries, and Parks (MDWFP) held its annual Fallen Officer Memorial Service on Thursday to honor and remember the Conservation Officers who have made the ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty. Remarks were given by MDWFP Executive Director Lynn Posey. The keynote address and laying of the wreath were given by Representative Bill Kinkade, Chairman of the House Committee for Wildlife, Fisheries, and Parks.

“Each year, we gather to remember and honor the brave men and women who gave their lives in the line of duty protecting Mississippi’s people and natural resources. This memorial service, taking place during National Police Week, is a reminder of the risks officers face every day and the unwavering commitment they bring to their work,” said MDWFP Executive Director Lynn Posey.

Since 1948, twelve (12) MDWFP Conservation Officers have lost their lives in the line of duty. To honor and remember these individuals, the Fallen Officer Memorial was erected in 2007 at MDWFP’s Jackson office. The purpose is to serve as a permanent tribute in memory of those who unselfishly made a sacrifice on behalf of the citizens and natural resources of our great state.
