MDWFP annually partners with Ducks Unlimited and Drake Waterfowl to host the Gunner Palmer Memorial Youth Waterfowl Camp, a hands-on educational experience designed to introduce young people to the traditions and responsibilities of waterfowl hunting. The camp provides participants with opportunities to learn about waterfowl biology, wetland ecology, hunting ethics, and safe firearm handling while being mentored by experienced hunters, conservation professionals, and volunteers. Through field activities, demonstrations, and interactive discussions, campers gain a deeper understanding of how healthy wetlands support waterfowl populations and why conservation efforts are critical to sustaining these resources.

The mission of the camp is to recruit and retain the next generation of waterfowl hunters while building a strong conservation ethic among Mississippi’s youth. By connecting participants with outdoor experiences and conservation education, the program helps foster long-term support for wetland protection, responsible hunting practices, and the continued heritage of waterfowl hunting in Mississippi.
