May 24, 2025 – January 4, 2026

What if your backyard was a science playground?

  • Step into a garden of wonders
  • Discover the outdoors from the perspective of a bee
  • Take a walk through a digital garden to see plants growing in super time, and
  • Investigate the creatures that only come out at night!

Experience an exhibition all about the science in your own backyard. Created by the renowned Scitech in Perth, Australia, and produced by Imagine in Atlanta, GA, Backyard Adventures invites you to discover the scientist within yourself, showcasing how science is woven into the fabric of your daily experiences.

The exhibit celebrates the joy of outdoor play and highlights its impact on both physical and mental well-being and consists of interactive science displays such as:

  • Night Vision

  • Bee’s Eye View

  • Giant Pumpkin Bonanza

  • Critter Calls

  • Giant Skipping Rope, Backyard Sports, Garden Golf,

  • and Augmented Reality Garden Bed.

“Backyard Adventures shows that you don’t have to go far to explore something amazing. This exhibit invites you to see the outdoors through a new lens - full of science, surprises, and everyday wonder,” says Museum Director Angel Rohnke.

"Thanks to the generosity of our donors and members, we’re able to help bring exciting, interactive exhibits like Backyard Adventures to Mississippi. Supporting the Museum through membership and giving means making a direct impact on families, education, and conservation right here at home,” says MMNSF Executive Director Susan Frazier.

Topics include the:

  • biological interactions between plants and insects
  • zoology of nocturnal animals
  • horticulture of growing giant vegetables
  • mathematics needed to lay brick for patios, and much more.

The exhibit is included with museum admission or Mississippi Museum of Natural Science Foundation Membership.

This exhibition is created by Scitech Discovery Centre, Perth Australia and produced by Imagine Exhibitions Inc. and is sponsored locally by the Mississippi Department of Wildlife, Fisheries, and Parks, the Mississippi Museum of Natural Science Foundation, Atmos Energy, Entergy, Regions Bank, Trustmark Bank, and other generous sponsors.
